Tower 185 in Frankfurt celebrates its 100 metre (approx. 328 feet) festival – PricewaterhouseCoopers leases additional space

Frankfurt, 24 June 2010 – Today in Frankfurt am Main the high-rise office building Tower 185 is celebrating its 100 metre (approx. 328 feet) festival, thus marking the halfway point of its construction. The developer and investor, Vivico Real Estate, invited nearly 250 guests from the spheres of politics, business and culture to this event. The guests were thus able to get a first impression of the structure designed as a green building and enjoy the view over the skyline of Frankfurt.

Mayor Petra Roth pointed out that Tower 185 not only marks the prelude for the Europaviertel, but is also further evidence that the strong economy in Frankfurt is capable of defying the global crisis. “Tower 185, which was developed with sustainability aspects in mind, is a good example of the fact that resource-conserving innovations pay off even under difficult economic conditions,” the mayor of Frankfurt emphasised, at the same time praising the exceptional performance of companies in Frankfurt and the region.
In his speech, Bernhard H. Hansen, CEO of Vivico, was pleased to announce: “Just last week we concluded a lease agreement with PricewaterhouseCoopers for another four floors in Tower 185. With the additional 59,201 square feet, PwC has now leased approx. 705,036 square feet of office space in Tower 185, thus raising our pre-letting rate to approx. 68 percent.” PwC is the ideal tenant for the building since the sustainable and at the same time efficient building concept fits ideally with the corporate claim of PwC.
Hans Wagener, spokesman for the Board of Directors of PwC, agreed with this statement: “Tower 185 not only gives us the possibility to bring together the divisions of the company that are currently spread out over various locations, it also particularly offers us flexibility in structuring our office space, which is so important in our industry.  Together with Vivico we can furnish the space exactly to meet our needs and at the same time benefit from the building’s high levels of efficiency.”
Henner Mahlstedt, Chairman of the Board at Hochtief Construction AG, emphasised: “HOCHTIEF is one of the leading suppliers of green buildings. We are thus pleased to be able to create the shell for this impressive building. We are already making a contribution to protect the environment during the construction phase: we recycle over 90 percent of construction waste and primarily rely on regional building materials. This allows us to avoid unnecessary transport routes and lower CO2 emissions.”
At approximately 656 feet in height, Tower 185, which was designed by Prof. Christoph Mäckler Architekten (Prof. Christoph Mäckler Architects), will rank among the top four highest high-rise buildings in Frankfurt. Following its completion, Tower 185 will be one of the first newly constructed high-rise buildings in Europe to receive a LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.  The building already received a pre-certification from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (German Sustainable Building Council - DGNB).
At the end of this year PricewaterhouseCoopers will move into the plinth building of Tower 185. The high-rise is scheduled for completion at the end of 2011
