Tower 185: ...and there was light!

Tower 185 in Frankfurt is due to be completed by the end of this year. At an impressive height of 200 metres, it is Germany’s fourth-tallest office building. Today, Tower 185 already dominates Frankfurt‘s skyline by day. But until now, no-one has known how the skyscraper will add to the city’s sparkle at night.

Now, in conjunction with Munich lighting specialists “Day and Light”, architect Prof. Christoph Mäckler has developed a unique lighting design for Tower 185 that will set the structure aglow once darkness descends. This smart solution leverages energy-efficient, computer-controlled LED lighting.

The lighting concept will be tested on Friday 16 December 2012, at 6 pm. Computer programs developed especially for the occasion will put the new lighting system through its paces and test its capacity. Appropriately, Tower 185’s new night-time appearance will be festively inaugurated with a brief dazzling display of light. Afterwards, the building will adopt its "normal", considerably more sober every-day (or night) look.

Residents of Frankfurt and other interested onlookers are invited to view the lighting display from the Plaza in front of Tower 185 (Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage 35-37).

Tower 185 can be easily reached by taking the Undergrund No. U4 to Festhalle/Messe. The exit marked Hohenstaufenstrasse is directly in front of the building.
