Berlin, 27 February 2014 The InterCityHotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main railway station), developed and realised by CA Immo, has garnered the highest honour awarded by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) – its Gold certificate. 

The DGNB sustainability certification considers a wide variety of quality criteria, including not only environmental but also economic, socio-cultural and technical aspects. The InterCityHotel met these criteria with an average score of approximately 83%. The building earned an above-average score of 90% in the environmental and economic categories.  

Dr Bruno Ettenauer, CEO of CA Immo: “In industrialised nations, real property is responsible for about 40% of all CO2 emissions. This is why CA Immo makes it a priority to comply with stringent sustainability criteria in all of its own projects and to earn certification for the buildings from independent institutions such as the DGNB, the ÖGNI [Austrian society for sustainable real estate] or the U.S. Green Building Council with its LEED certificate.” CA Immo has had 12 buildings certified since 2010. Another nine buildings have applied for certification.

The InterCityHotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof has a total of 412 rooms with a total gross floor area of about 19,800 m² (213,125 square feet). CA Immo’s investment in this four-star hotel amounts to around 53 million euros. The hotel has a long-term lease with the Steigenberger Group and represents the new flagship hotel of the InterCityHotel brand. 

The hotel, which opened in November of 2013, is part of a building complex on Washingtonplatz, a square right by Berlin’s central station and the bend in the River Spree. This is where CA Immo is currently developing the John F. Kennedy Haus (John F. Kennedy House), another high-quality office building slated for completion in summer 2015. Construction management of both the InterCityHotel and the office building is in the hands of CA Immo subsidiary omniCon. As such, omniCon is tasked with responsibility for and oversight of timing, budget and quality for CA Immo – three functions that are critical to success.
