Decision reached in architecture competition for high rise building

The skyline of Frankfurt am Main could soon see a new addition.A decision was reached yesterday in the architecture competition for a further high-rise building in Europaviertel.CA Immo conducted the international competition in cooperation with the City of Frankfurt. The jury, chaired by Prof. Jo Eisele, were unanimous in their decision to award first place to the design by Meurer Architekten (Frankfurt am Main). The designs of Barkow Leibinger (Berlin) and Schneider + Schumacher (Frankfurt am Main) were both given second place.Gruber Kleine Kranburg (Frankfurt am Main) and R plus Architekten (Hamburg) were both commended for their designs.

The building, which is to measure around 175 metres (574 feet) in height, will be situated in the immediate neighbourhood of Tower 185, the Messe Frankfurt trade fair grounds and the Skyline Plaza. The concept for the high-rise building includes both office and hotel use.

Dr Bruno Ettenauer, CEO of CA Immo: “The location of the high-rise building is ideal for both hotel and office use. In recent years, Europaviertel has established itself as a preferred hotel location and as a sought-after address for international companies thanks both to its proximity to the trade fair grounds and its central position in the city. The award-winning designs succeed in harmoniously combining the two aspects of hotel and office use in a very special way to create another striking and original building on Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage. We now have a very good basis for convincing potential users of the project’s merits.”

The consistent separation of the processes involved with the respective uses is enabled by the award-winning designs. The hotel is to be accommodated in the bottom 10 storeys of the high-rise building, while offices are to be located on the floors above. Separate entrances on the ground floor will provide prestigious access to the two areas. In total, the building will have around 80,000 square metres (861,000 square feet) of gross floor space. Alongside design aspects, key criteria of the competition were technical, economic and ecological quality.

CA Immo is planning to realise and certify the high-rise building as a green building – as is the case for all of the company’s new builds. It hopes to acquire DGNB Gold certification for it. Realisation of the building will depend on market demand.
