“Colours of Europe” – Tower 185 light installation for the Luminale

Frankfurt, 8 April 2010. Frankfurt’s latest high-rise building, Tower 185, will be part of this year’s Luminale with the light installation “Colours of Europe”. The Tower 185 high-rise building on Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage, which is still under construction, forms the gateway to the new Europaviertel in Frankfurt.

The international lighting culture festival Luminale will be taking place in Frankfurt am Main from 11 to 16 April 2010. The light display “Colours of Europe” projects the colours of the European flags on the scaffolding of Tower 185 in constant interchange using innovative and energy-saving LED spotlights. The light display developed by Day & Light Lichtplanung (Munich) thus not only points to the international nature of the location, but also to the future-oriented and sustainable approach of Tower 185.
Tower 185, which was designed by Prof. Christoph Mäckler, is being consistently realised as a green building by the real estate company Vivico. The building has already received a pre-certification from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für nachhaltiges Bauen (German Sustainable Building Council - DGNB) and following completion will be one of the first new high-rise buildings in Europe to receive a LEED Gold certificate from the U.S. Green Building Council. With nearly 60 per cent of the leased space, the main tenant will be the consulting and auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The completion of the building will be conducted in two phases: the plinth building will be completed and occupied by the end of 2010 and the high-rise building will be completed by the end of 2011.
The installation “Colours of Europe” was supported by Alexander Weckmer Licht und Mediensysteme GmbH, Architainment Lighting Limited as well as Philips Lighting DACH/UK.
