Topping out ceremony for the final building in Munich's Arnulfpark

Around ten years after the ground was first broken in Munich's new Arnulfpark district, the topping-out ceremony took place today for its final building, the Kontorhaus. The building was developed by CA Immo and E & G Financial Services as part of a joint venture, and is due to be completed in summer 2015. The total investment amounts to around 102 million euros. The pre-letting rate stands at approximately 55 per cent.

Even before construction began, Google had decided to set up its Munich headquarters in the Kontorhaus. To this end, the company signed a rental contract for around 14,000 m² (150,700 ft²) of gross floor space. The 11,000 m² [118,400 ft²] floor area still available for lease currently represents one of the few contiguous new construction areas in Munich on this scale in a central location.

Striking features of the building, which was designed by architecture firm LRO Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei, are the high quality brick façade and the sweeping entrance arch, reminiscent of the Hackerbrücke (Hacker bridge), which provide an attractive architectural contrast to the neighbouring buildings. A tower approximately 40 m [131 ft] high marks the eastern boundary of the building and permits a view of the city and Alpine panorama that cannot be blocked by development. The design and realisation of the building will make allowance for sustainability and will be certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) after completion.
