Architectural competition for the realisation of the cube-shaped office building in the Berlin Lehrter Stadtquartier completed

Berlin, 18th December 2007 Vivico today announced the winners of the international competition for the realisation of the cube-shaped office building in the Lehrter Stadtquartier (Lehrter district) in Berlin. The jury, under the chairmanship of Professor Johann Eisele (TU Darmstadt), awarded first prize to the architecture studio 3XN (Copenhagen/Denmark).
During a press conference both Bernhard H. Hansen (chairman of the board of directors of Vivico) and senate director of urban development Regula Lüscher expressed their satisfaction with the results of the high-calibre competition. "All designs submitted are of a very high quality. The winning design of 3XN provided us with an excellent basis so that we can now quickly press ahead with the realisation plan", said Bernhard H. Hansen. Senate director of urban development Regula Lüscher added: "The innovative design of 3XN does justice to the importance of the location in an extraordinary form and provides an exciting contrast to the architecture of the main train station."
The planned office building will be built on Washington Place (southern forecourt of the new main train station) vis-à-vis the Federal Chancellor's office in Berlin. The cube shaped building whose edges measure 42.5 m has a floor area of approximately 19,500m².
Furthermore, the architecture studios Auer+Weber+Assoziierte from Munich/Germany [2nd prize), Foster+Partners from London/United Kingdom and Dominique Perault Architecture from Paris/France were also invited to the competition which was run in coordination with the State of Berlin.  The members of the jury panel included the expert adjudicator Prof. Johann Eisele (Darmstadt), Prof. Regine Leibinger (Berlin) and Prof. Anett-Maud Joppien (Frankfurt/Potsdam) as well as  expert adjudicator Regula Lüscher, senate director of urban development, Torsten Thiele, chairman of the board of directors of DB Services Immobilien and Bernhard H. Hansen, chairman of the board of directors of Vivico.
